Cleaning Supplies Save Shelter Money

Part of what I do as a professional organizer is to help people clear out estates after someone has passed away. My team and I organize things in a manner that makes it easy for the families to go through the remaining stuff to decide what they would like to keep, and what to let go.

I recently worked with an estate client whose family had gotten most everything out of the estate that they wanted, but needed help finishing and cleaning out the home. As my team and I went through the remainder of stuff, I noticed that there were many household cleaning items, tissues, bedding, etc. that no one wanted. Rather than tossing it away, I boxed it up and contacted Dorothy’s Place – Women Alive in Salinas, California.

Women Alive is a women’s shelter that is committed to women living on the streets. The primary objective of their program is to create a safe, non-judgmental, nurturing space for women beginning with an emergency overnight shelter. The head of the shelter was super excited to receive the unexpected donation. She shared that because of the donation, they would not have to spend precious money for these types of things. The money they would save could go towards food and shelter for the homeless instead.
