Through portable classrooms, Baltimore Reads offers FREE English as a Second Language (ESL), reading and GED prep programs across Baltimore City. But they don’t stop there. Baltimore Reads operates the Baltimore Reads’ Book Bank, which provides free books to children, their families, and schools to encourage and improve literacy skills, and develop an intergenerational love for reading and lifelong learning. They believe that parents who can’t read raise children who don’t read.

Reading Tree is a non-profit organization that collects books from schools, libraries, and individuals who no longer want them, and sends them to schools and libraries which desperately need them. They care about less affluent people who do not have enough books to sustain educational and intellectual growth and are condemned to ignorance, illiteracy and poverty. Since their inception, they have provided more than five million books to needy areas ranging from Haiti, India, the Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Malawi, South Africa, Kenya, the Gambia, and Tanzania, to the newly independent states of the former USSR (including Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia). They provide books to schools and libraries globally, on five continents, and to needy areas here in the U.S.
